heavier weights will not allow the tractor to reach operating speed. Governors use centrifugal force to compress a spring, the heavier, the quicker it closes the throttle. Governors are not good to play with without background ability and a book/manual. Pullers often make modifications to the governor, but they spend a lot of cash earning 5 dollar trophies and having fun. M&W company made a quicker responding governor system that made no more power, but did make a slight difference in performance. Before going into the guts of it get some written material, and experienceed help. No offence intended, just safety. Jim

no offence taken. i appreciate any information that i can get, but wont heavier weights open the governor faster?

Lighter weights will allow the spring to react quicker on the governor weights, of course the same can be said for a heavier spring acting quicker on the governor weights. Either way, you don't want to go too crazy in either direction or you will loose the relationship that makes the governor function well, too heavy a spring or too light a weight and you will have very high RPMs, too light a spring or too heavy a weight and you will too low of RPMs.

Think about what Jim said. Centrifigal force pushes the weights out and opens the gov. LIGHTER weights would make it open faster because they would fly out from center faster. Do some research on this subject. There is a lot of info out there on the web on this.
