farmall 560 trans problem

My friend has a farmall 560 think it is from the 60s but he was disking the other day and it came out of gear and all he could do is put in reverse and it would go forward. He has no forward gears or reverse. Well just the forward gear when it is in reverse. Any idea? Thank you Rick

Pretty easy fix
Remove the three bolts holding the shifter in place. Get the tractor so that the drive trail is not in a bind. (push the clutch, pull back the TA, and position so it can be rolled a little.
With a big screw driver, realign all the shift rails in the trans (good light is valuable) re install the shifter to engage the neutral slot.
Yhat is pretty much it. Welding a little metal on the shift lever tip. and making sure the pivot pin in the housing you yook off is tightm will keep it from doing it again. Jim

Does the tractor stall out when you put it in any other gear?

If so, Janicholson's procedure will fix the immediate problem. It's stuck in 1st gear, and when you "put it in reverse" you are actually not putting it into any gear. The shifter is hitting dead air.

Thank you again. It was a piece of cake. The friends whos tractor it is he's not very good at fixing things. So followed your instruction went real easy. He is tickled pink he has his tractor working again. Rick
