M Hyd Pressure #

Have gone to archives and several pages. Take this method instead: What is the proper pressure of an SMTA hydraulic pump?

Most had a relief setting in the liftall unit of 1000 PSI. When the same basic pump was used on a 400 or 450 they check around 1150 to 1250 PSI hot on a average used tractor. Some a little higher and several will show up 1000 to 1100 PSI.

Thanks so much! Had one checked at local JI Case today and the mechanic told me that 900 was way too low that it should be 2500! Now, those who are in the "real world" of antique tractors give me knowledge to go by. I would think that if 1000 to 1250 is normal, that 900 isn't bad, but will do. Correct?

Depends on the use. 900 is better than most M belley pumps put out and would probably work for most old IH implements. If running add on power steering and other hydraulics from the same pump it may not be good enough. Most don't notice 900 PSI as being a problem until the power steering starts getting weak.
