The 1951 Farmall Md I Have Has Always Had A Very Slow Idle On Gas Is There Any Tricks To Up The Idle A Bit My 1952 Md Idles Like A Normal One Whats Up??

Thanks

you can adjust the float height in the carb that can make a difference as long playing with the choke its self

I have no MD's and you have two? Whats with that? You should send the low idle MD up to me in Canada, and i'll see if i can fix it. LOL Kent

Take the carburator off. On the top (manifold side) there is a round disc held on with a screw. Take the disc off and put the lock washer under the disc. Will speed up the gas side idle speed. Does not take very much to make a difference in speed.

Provided everything else in the system is okay.
Remove the carburetor and make sure the air valve plate is straight and has the same opening all the way around. If the parts look okay and the opening is in the 3/32 to 7/64 range try the the opening about .010 more.
IH made some carburetors with a outside adjustment for idle, mostly found on standard tractors or industrial. Some found there way to Farmall tractors.

James, I purchased a 450-D that also ran very slow on gas. The previous owner said it always ran that slow. It was hard to keep it running after starting it. Found out the timing was too retarded. Set it up some and now it idles plenty fast and no black smoke on startup. Don't remember what the timing should be set to, but it's probably in the owners manual. Something else to try. Al

Agree to that. A little timing bump will clear up a slow idle easy enough and they are easier to start. Not too much, they will want to rev a bit when warm.
