I did an out of frame rebuild on the engine because the oil plug fell out and spun two rods. I reused the pistons and liners because it had a 100 hours on a reman long block. The problem is after it warms up it develops a knock between 800 and 1400 rpms. It sounds like it is coming from the front cylinders. I pulled the pan back down and rechecked the clearances and they all were fine. I could not fell any play in the rod bushing either. The oil pressure stays steady at around 50 psi. Any suggestion what it could be?

if your engine uses wrist pin bushings in the rods where the wrist pin bushing alright, did the pistons show any scoring or discoloration around the bottom of the skirt, reason i asked is i've seen a couple gas engines that the piston shrunk on the wrist pin after initial start up they chattered like a monkey, upon pan removal you could see a blackened place on the inside of the skirt on the ones that were the problem, not saying that this is your problem, hope it's something simple

The rods were aftermarket reconditioned and the pistons and liners didn't have any scoring on them. Number 3 and 4 rods were replaced and the noise sounds like it is coming from the front of the engine.

Possibly a bad injector, or a timing issue not specifically related to the rebuild? When you find the problem, please post the cure. Thanks, Wayne

could a camshaft thrust washer be missing?the cam could be banging back and forth. i ve seen this on 2.5 car engine before.see if you have excessive camshft end play.mark
