Sawtooth throttle

Picked up a new sawtooth throttle for my SH and am having some trouble with it. With it all the way forward or back, the hadle twists so that the sawtooth cant lock because the back side of the handle is touching. Wondering if I just need to get a heavier spring or if I should just throw it away for a friction disc throttle. Thanks!

I'm guessing there is something wrong with your new throttle. I put a new saw tooth assembly on my 1950 H a few years ago and it works absolutely great.

I've got a same as new square notched assembly if you or anybody else is interested.

The old "governor control handle" is worn in the center allowing the handle to tilt when under pressure at WOT.

The handle has to have a little play to twist enough to hold but can't be sloppy loose. I cut the bushing out of the handle, actually, I think I press them or drive them out and install a new bushing made from steel pipe bushing stock and then size it to get just the right amount of twist. Have done it to all three of my H and M's. Also, the spring has to be good, rusty ones lose their tension. Or, am I reading this wrong and you bought the whole assembly with lever, spring and quadrant.

Would the throttle rod be upside down? Or wouldn't that make a difference. Something isn't lined up right and its not the new unit I don't think.

I have had that problem with other types of those throttles. If it is a new one it may be China made and it seems they make them so they almost work. What I have done is take the throttle part off and put it in the vise and twist it a little in the direction so the back doesn't hit before the teeth engage. You don't need to bend it much. Roger

tossed my old sawtooth in the trash and put on a old M&W friction type 5 yrs ago....its worked flawlessly ever since.
