The m is apart for pto and brake seals. Farm store has hytran on sale. Anyone run it in the rear of an m? Most this tractor does is a little mowing - no heavy field work.

The lubricity is not a problem. It is rated for the task. The issue may be increased leaking. Gear oil 85-120 multi wt. is probably cheaper. Jim

HyTran will be fine in the M rear end. If all the seals are good, you won't have a leak problem. I have an MD that has had HyTran in it for ten years. It only does parade and shows, not real work. The only leak is one of the axle seals, but that leaked before the Hytran was in there. However, if the 80-90W gear oil is cheaper, I'd use that and save the money.

HyTran will provide proper lubercation for your rear end but will probably leak. 90W gear oil is the proper and recommended lubericant to use, plus, it is much cheeper.

If one liquid leaks out of a bad seal wouldn't any liquid leak out of a bad seal? Doesn't it have to do with particle sizes of the oil rather than viscosity/bulk density/flowability?

With a similar leakage path, thin fluid will leak far more volume through the same gap. Sometimes the thick viscosity of a heavy oil will just hang in the gap, and not leak the surficants in a hytran type oil will also make it flow along surfaces. Jim
