Farmall B governor housing

The throttle input shaft is loose in the governor casting and I am trying to figure out the best way to repair it. The shaft wobbles. What do you think of the idea of drilling out the hole and using a bronze bushing? The shaft is worn about 2-3 thousanths under 1/2" Which is fine if the housing is good.

I found a bushing in my starter assortment that fit the shaft. I had a machine shop bore & ream the housing to 5/8. Good fit when I put it together.

You mean the shaft with the lever that attaches the governor to the carb? Cost me $134 to CaseIH for me to rebuild the governor on my C. I replaced all the bearings and at least one bushing plus the three springs. I think CaseIH has ALL the parts except one felt seal holder, which I believe is the one you are talking about. The felt seal goes into the opening at the end of the tube. I couldn't get the old part that holds the seal back in without bending it, so I trimmed a lock washer to fit the hole and hold the seal in place. I replaced the bearing at the inside end of the tube, Governor is perfect. If you actually got the hole out of round, that means the felt seal was either missing or destroyed, in that case a bushing will help, but I would still use the felt seal, which I believe is to keep out dust. The shaft is also available, but I think CaseIH wanted about $125+. Mine was still ok.

It is the lever that goes to the carb I believe. It is the short one, not the aluminum one. Is the felt available for that shaft or can I just get a small oil seal to fit the shaft and counterbore?

I think the felt is still available -- Your B governor may be slightly different from my C. Look at the parts book, if you don't have one get the number from CaseIH.com. I took felt out of mine from the short lever but the replacement was a seal. SO the answer is probably yes, but check the parts manual. However if the hole is worn out of round the seal won't fit unless enlarged for the seal.

Thanks to all for the help. My yougest daughter is dating a guy whose dad has a machine shop, so that helps, at least until they break up. The bore for the felt is fine, it is the shaft bore that is eggshaped. I think I am going to go the 5/8-1/2 bushing route.
