301 engine installation in 560

I am thinking of putting a 301 engine off of a 715 combine in my 560. How much changing would I have to do to get this to work? Will the flywheel have to be changed to be fitted with a clutch? Would appreciate any info on this. I have the combine engine and I know its good, so would this be a better fix than rebuilding my 263? thanks

It is more work than you think, but if you have both engines you have half the battle over with. You will need to switch the timing cover, back plate, flywheel, oil pan, valve cover(?), oil sump and pump, manifold(?), oil filter base (on a diesel for sure) and a few things I am not remembering right now. Have fun!

Well, allrighty then, sounds like I got a little part swapping to do. Well assuming everything you mentioned is interchangeable between the two engines, all I got to do is get busy. I got way more time than money. Thanks again.

The one difference that you will have to work around is that the four bolts in the combine engine come from the from the front and screw into the combine clutch housing. On the tractors the bolts come from the rear and thread into the block. The solution is to use longer bolts and add nuts on the engine side.

Have done two of these swaps.A 560 diesel and a 460 gas.You will also have to swap the cast oil filter base from the old engine to the 301 to clear the steering shaft and swap the govennor linkage from the tractor engine to combine motor and the water pump to.

I had a 656 gas that had the c-301 in it and it worked good and looked completly stock. Don't think it had any more power though because it had the original carb on it off the 263
