Farmall 560 needs clutch??

Took my 560 to town last night so they could fix a leaking tire today. Since the case ih dealer is next door, I decided to see if they could adjust my clutch while it was in town. So they did. When I went in there today the shop ticket said they adjusted clutch and ta and everything was good. The mechanic told me that the clutch was bad and couldn't be adjusted so I might as well run it until it slips. On my way home from town the clutch began to slip. It had never slipped before. How would you guys handle this? If it really needs a new clutch, how much should that cost? How big of a job is it to do?

First check the pedal freeplay. Push on the pedal with your hand. It should move pretty easy for an inch and an eighth before getting hard to push down if it is easy at first, and the TA is working correctly and adjusted correctly) is slipping. If it is hard to push down immediately, (no slack) they mis-adjusted it and need to correct their mistake. (it is possible to improperly adjust a clutch to make an owner think it needs a new one, instant repair job) Give them a chance to make it right if it is improperly adjusted. It takes a good experienced mechanic, or owner, to adjust the clutch TA correctly, especially on a machine with worn pins and clevises in the TA linkage. Search TA adjustment in the archives, Jim

If it has never slipped before and you were driving it home with nothing behind it and it just started to slip, I would say you might have a shady mechanic or dealership.
