I have a model A, s/n plate missing. Numbers on lower block right side 6-29-V
Upper engine right side 6432 DH
Pto housing 6614DA
Trans cover 6832DA
Radiator grill is wire screen, yellow base coat under red.
Any help?

If I remember right there is a number on the rear left side of the block that is the same as the serial number and that will give you the info you want. For me to be sure I would have to go out and look at my BA but it is dark out and hot out and I just took a shower LOL

First take a look a the V in 6-29-V. That is a date casting code indicating June 29 of some year. V was not used. Both U and W were used for 1951 which, without checking out the other ****DX numbers for being right to this suggestion, would indicate you might have a Super A instead of and A. Look over the rest of your tractor (torque tube, tranny, final drives), as well, for castings in similar format to see if the match up or might more clear to read.

The motor serial number that I believe Old is referring to is found on the front right side of the motor. It is stamped into a milled flat spot, at the upper edge of the crankcase. Below the head gasket and generally underneath the #1 plug. It may be obscured under a lot of crud and by the speed control rod to the governor, but it's there. That will tell you at least what year the motor is. If it's not near either end of the range for the year, it will generally tell you the year of the tractor. The numbers got apart between chassis and motor after production started at Louisville. A reliable indicator, as long as any other date casting codes are within a few months of the casting date on the motor.

PTO housing 6614DA (actually the belt pulley housing) was only used until mid-1941. Unless that housing migrated from an older tractor, the tractor must be 1941 or older.

It sounds like your tractor has been pieced together with parts from other stuff. First the grille thats from a power unit. You need the cast codes from other parts on the tractor. THE 6*29*V is one een though the "V" was not used. Look on the tranny by the clutch pedal there should be one there. The # on the block under neath the #1 plug will be a FABXXXX that # could or could not be the original engine. Magnetoes were the standard ignition used on the Bs

I located the engine s/n. It is 102112. The first numeral 1 is not exactly in line with the other numbers (slightly raised) but nontheless obviously one of the numbers. 6832DA is hot stamped on the tranny cover near the gear shift.
6342DH hot stamped at right side rear of engine behind the oil filter. The crankcase breather extends through the hood and it also serves as oil filler tube. The tractor runs great and uses no oil.

Makes me wonder if you take a wire brush and clean it up a little bit what you think is a V might be an N. N is the letter for 1944, which is the year your motor was cast.

Still doesn't rule out a replacement motor as others have mentioned, but an N in the date code with that serial number would be right for a '44 A.

That is what I think too. Check other major castings for an "N" date code. If most match up, it is probably a '44 with an earlier PTO. If the date codes are all over the place, it is as Gene commented. In either case, the engine was from a tractor with the matching serial numbr.
