Cub Coffee Grinder Rear End?

I replaced the seals and gaskets in the final drive of the cub. Replaced the seals in the main shafts and drained the old fluid and replaced to the correct level. Now it sounds like a grinder in the transmission just about where the shift lever in any gear. I'm sure I'll have to tear it apart, but does it seem the bearings in the main shaft are bad, or misalignment of the bevel gears? Or just a misplaced wrench (I'm not missing any tools).
 
I had mine rebuilt by a tractor mechanic. Same as yours, noisy! I complained to the mechanic. He told me to drive it for awhile and, if possible to work it a bit. Sure enough, it quited down. Good luck.
 
I'm not familiar with exactly what's involved in that whole procedure on the cub, but I can tell you with some certainty that any time you take any old piece of equipment apart that relies on gears, tractor or otherwise - unless you put each gear back together exactly as they were originally, meaning matching tooth to tooth how they originally meshed (which in most cases is too difficult to even try to do), you're likely to have a lot of noise for a while, until they wear in.

Hard to say what's normal without hearing it.
But if it sounds like there's a wrench in there, that might be a little more than regular reasembly noise. It's hard to say

If you're talking bevel gears, the problem gets worse if you don't re-assemble them to the exact same depth in relation to eachother. Ring and pinion gears are even more sensitive.

In most cases, if things run as they're supposed to, that's what counts, and the noise will usually go away over time.
 
thats a for sure thing. maybe he could remove muffler since cant turn up the radio,lol.
 
Could possibly be a noisy bearing. Seems like the goop that's in these things is good at dampening noise even though it's not good at lubricating.
