farmall m radiator petcock

I was trying to drain the petcock under the radiator but nothing is coming out. Tha radiator is full, but I cannot drain it. Is it plugged somewhere?

When the drain is open and nothing comes out its either plugged or dry. Have you tried some compressed air thru the fitting?

Hi Gene; The radiator is full to the top and nothing comes out. i stuck a screwdriver up there, nothing came out, I even put my blow gon fro my air compressor up there, nothing.

Get a length of wire and put a bit of a bend in it so you can poke off to the sides a little. Eventually you should be able to break the crud loose.

There IS a drain at the bottom of the radiator. If you drain the block you are only getting part of the coolant out. The radiator drain is usually a pipe with a cap on the end. Looks like plumbing pipe. It's located on the right side (as you sit in the tractor seat) of the lower radiator tank.

Yes, that is what mine has. I think it is 1/4" or 3/8" pipe, threaded on both ends, and maybe 3 or 4 inches in length, with a pipe cap on it. The original pipe cap had a couple of "ears" that you could get a grip on for removing the cap. Most of the "ears" are broken off by now.

It is a regular plumbing pipe. The parts book actually gives the size and length in the part name. I went to Menard's and bought a new one for my MD because the old one was rotted pretty bad on the cap end. The cap had a pn or IH or something cast into it. I just used a regular pipe cap, but I have the original in the toolbox.

John if the wire doesn't work you may have to pull bottom hose.If it has a lot of crude in it you might want to have a radiator shop boil it out and get all crude out of it.

Yes, when I wrote that I didn't realize he was referring to an M. I saw the heading later.

Sorry about that!
