I am working on a B that was in a shed fire. The seat tag was melted off. The block is not stamped. I checked the spot where it should be & all I find are the milling marks when the flat spot was made. The block has the hole for the hyd pump. Casting # ends in 069. S in the date code. I always thought it was a 1946. Am I right or wrong? I have known this tractor all my life as it was a neighbor.

S is 1949, so the engine is from a SA or C, or it could be a replacement block. Block number also makes it a SA and probably C block, casting number 251069.

I would say it has a replacement block as they had no serial #. After the engine was installed mechanic was supposed to stamp serial# of the tractor new block was installed in. Thats what i have read if i remember in Guy Fays BOOK.

Look for date castings on main tractor parts to determine year since your block is oviously a replacement block.
