Steering pedestal from a '53 SH fit a '41 H ?

I have a cracked steering pedestal on my H, we were able to weld it up for now but it isn"t pretty. I"ve found someone with a "53 SH pedestal and wanted to make sure it would fit.

I beleive Nebraska Cowman told me that pedestals on tractors older than serial number 15,698 used pedestals with a different base. Mine being a "41 and the serials that year started at 52,387 I shouldn"t have the older base.

I realize my tractor had the starter button behind the pedestal and push rod going through the pedestal, and a newer style would have a button mounted on the side, I"m fine with that change, didn"t like the starter buttons near the floor.

The H vertical bolster shaft is all the same for H, Super H, 300 & 350 Farmall, 69060D is part-number, I was IH/CNH dealer parts for 47 years, we always stocked 1, was breaking usually at the neck on lower part of shaft. No difference in bolt pattern at bottom in years or serial number. It was just not quite meaty enough especially if front end loader on tractor, M was a lot heavier shaft & I never had it break, they both would wear down on the bushing surface.

The early ones are different but not sure when they changed. I am guessing they did in 40 when they did alot of the other changes. Its best just to get measurements of the bolt pattern and see if they match. If the base is alright on your 41 then you can take that rivet out and remove the base and change them if needed.

RPM1941, poster didn't use the best term for the part. Think he wants a rear steering shaft support post.
Early H had a different front upper bolster and steering shaft starting out though.

My Farmall H Parts catalog with a Feb. 1960 print date shows the change at s/n 15698 (early 1940) to a different steering post. The reference replacement at that time was the complete assembly 352964R91 which replaced the earlier steering post p/n 51129DXA used on s/n's 501-15697. There was another steering post change later in the Farmall H production run at s/n 275971 and up to yet another configuration. The top transmission cover also changed at s/n 15698 but that change was probably necessiated for a different reason and not the steering post attachment method or a revised hole pattern. I'm guessing a steering pedestal from a Super H would be different then the one on your tractor and would probably be the later one introduced at s/n 275971 or even a different variation if unique to a Super H. Hope this helps, Hal.
