What would you offer for this C?

I earlier posted about the value of a IH Farmall 350 from an estate. Well this C is also offered. The hydraulic unit is cracked in half, one rear tire is shot as are the front. It's not stuck and all the pieces are with it. What's a fair offer? PK

Scrap price would put it somewhere between $400 and $500.

The front end will easily bring $500 if it's in decent shape. You should be able to get $100 a pair for the rear weights. I'm sure there are some other valuable parts there if the tractor turns out to have major issues besides the hydraulic block.

I still wouldn't offer more than $500 for it.

Agreed - 500

If it were all in working order, I think you'd be in the 1500-1800 range - so work down from there. Rear tire, front tires, hydraulic unit, etc. That stuff adds up real quick.

Add to that the you haven't run it, that makes it a gamble for you, and worth coming down on the price further for that.

Scrap prices set the low end price. Not sure what cast iron's going for these days.

But I'd think you'd have gotten a good deal at 500. Go higher and you're taking a risk that may or may not work out in your favor. Go lower and you'll probably be out bid by somebody else.

I always figure they didn't park it there for no reason. I'd be one thing if it looked like it was in good running condition and grandpa had health problems and it sat. Looked like they got into it and figured it wasn't worth fixing. That being said, I'd offer low, like others have said, around $500.

There are lots of good parts there though, and if you are approaching it from that angle, it looks like the tin work is good (especially the grill), WFE, fenders, axle brackets, etc. they all add up if you are going to buy for parts. You can eliminate the hydraulics and use for a PTO tractor or to move equipment around. Pretty handy for that.

$400 tops!
I would start with $250 CASH in my right Hand and ask would this buy your old tractor?
If he hesitates out of a some pocket produce another $50, then Kick the dirt and ask how about now? (all your $50s in different pockets)
So on, and so till $350 is in your hand or the deal is struck!
If he pitches a fit, start to walk off and then say my last offer $400 take it of leave it. Be prepared to leave it, But I bet the sight of cold hard cash will have him where you want him long before $400. Thunder if he doesn't go for it, there are better tractors in scrap yards and wrecking yards.
Just my thoughts!

Are you buying it to run and use? Restore? Parts? Different answers for each. Right off the top of my head, there is $200 in weights, $400-$500 for the front end, and another $200 for hood/grill pre-cleaner, and if the left tire is decent (right looks shot) another $200, $175 for the fenders.

If you are looking just to get it running and use it, I am in agreement with the $400 +/-. Break her down into parts?.... maybe bump it up another $100-$200 or so. You do the math.

So, bottom line is what can your wallet stand and what do you want to do with it. If I were dealing to get it, it would be a parts tractor, and I would have no issues ending up around $500 for it in my area.

ps. WFE and Fenders are pricey parts regardless. Go price them separately.
