Removing grease/oil

I want to do some re-painting on IHC metal. What is best to remove grease/oil? I am thinking rag and paint thinner? Thanks. p.s. I intend to use Ospho on rusted areas.

Are you looking to degrease the whole tractor, or just specific parts? For parts, I use kerosene to remove most of the crud. I then give them a once over with brake clean to prep for painting.

Whole tractor? Steam Jenny is most effective if you have access to one. If not, the engine degreaser and a pressure washer also works.

IMHO.

Mineral spirits works very well also and is not nearly as harmful to your skin as gasoline or diesel fuel, plus it doesn't stink quite as much.

All the above work to varying degrees, after you are satisfied all the grease has been removed and right before applying any primer, use thinner on a rag and wipe it down thoroughly. Get a new clean rag & do it again, when it evaporates, you are ready to shoot the primer.
