starter electrical question..

hey guys my 300U wont crank, i have a 6V system with an 8V batt. i'm measuring 8.3V at the batt cable on the starter solonoid, when i go to the small wire (key switch voltage) and crank i measure 1.8V with the key in the crank position. i jump the soloniod and still only get a click sometimes but no crank.
is the 1.8V normal drop when trying to crank or is it a ground problem???
thanks in advance for any help fellas.....Mike

As Ted says---connections. Start with ground & battery connections/ cables. If still nothing, check smaller gauge wires to ignition switch.
Since you have no start by jumping the solenoid, it's likely a connection/ ground thing.

I would just add to check the voltage drop of the battery before checking the connections.
