Never actually seen one in person, but I understand there was such a creature. Anyway, I'm trying to help someone who's tractor shopping and believes they may have one on the hook. Her description entails having to "give it lots of throttle to make it move". She's not familiar with tractors, and doesn't know if it's a hydro or conventional gear drive. I'm hesitant about turning someone loose with atractor if they don't even know what type of tranny it is, but I'm curious myself now.

So..My question is, what would I ask SPECIFICALLY, and what would I tell her to look for SPECIFICALLY to determine if it is in fact a hydro version? (Any indication on serial # plate, ect)

IH 574 tractors were built at the Doncaster UK fractory. I sold them when i was a salesman with an IH dealer in the 1970s and we had very little problems with them. The hydrostatic ones gave us no problems. MJ

I am restoring a 574 connot get stinsils. I live in canada.I really need the rond one on dash or a picture so i can make one. Any help would be gratful. Thanks Frank.

Well, I would expect the tractor to have a badge on it somewhere that said "HYDRO" or "HYDROSTATIC." Of course, time, use, and abuse means anything could have happened in the past 35 years.

If it is a gear drive there should be two levers to the left of the seat. One would have four positions 1-2-3-4, and the other would have four positions H-L-N-R

If the 574 hydro is like a US hydro it will have one lever for forward and reverse, possibly marked with a F-N-R, possibly with a turtle-rabbit arrangement or a color grade to indicate relative speed. There will also be a Hi-Lo range lever if it's like the US models.

It will have the trans lever on the left side of the steering wheel with a adjustable stop and quadrant, pull back to R, push forward to go ahead.

I saw a 574 Hydro with 1550 loader on a lot a few years back so they made it to North America.
