706 PTO SEAL

THE REAR SEAL ON THE PTO GOT KNOCKKED OUT BALING. CAN THE SEAL BE REPLACED FROM OUTSIDE IF I DRAIN THE OIL? I AM TIRED OF EVERYTHING LEAKING OIL!

"I AM TIRED OF EVERYTHING LEAKING OIL!"

I'm just GUESSING, but it does not seem that "farming with junk" is your forte. I would suggest working at the DMV, being a loan officer at a bank in an "economically challenged" area, or opening a bikini waxing salon at the local mall would better suit your personality type!

OK, I'm SORRY for going off the deep end, but older stuff is NOT EPA approved or GREEN or environmentally friendly.

You simply CANNOT get to the level of being squeaky clean without spending big bucks on new or late model equipment.

I have farmed with older equipment all my life, just because it is old does not mean it has to be "junk" some of us take pride in running older machines.I just want some intelligent advice!

The 1000 RPM shaft seal can be replaced without dismantling the PTO assembly. The 540 shaft seal is installed from the inside of the rear casting so complete disassembly of the PTO unit is required for that one. However there is an aftermarket seal kit for the for the 540 shaft that uses the existing threads in the casting to attach a seal on the outside that may work. Part number 830470 from Hy-Capacity.

Dusty, I'm sorry you failed to find ANY humor in my "off the cuff" remarks. (The internet doesn't do a very good job of conveying my twisted sense of humor!)

Despite the fact of me being too much of a smart a$$ about it, old stuff DOES tend to "mark it's territory" a bit. That's what makes it so endearing!

Like you, I have owned/operated my share of "junkque", and take pride in keeping it in good operating condition, as well.
