Will an engine from a 560 diesel work in a 706? I have a good 282 from a 560 and this 706 needs a rebuild on the 282 in it.Thanx in advance for ant replys.

Yep they are the same engine, the 282 was used in several tractors. Big difference is in the RPMs in order to get more horsepower for the 706 application. You may have to swap a few things such as timing cover and possibly injection pumps, but I am not certain, so compare the two engines as they are now. Im sure someone else with more knowledge will respond to your post.

You know, I wouldn't sweat the small differences.

The 706's injection pump is probably shot right along with the engine. The 560 engine presumably has a perfectly good injection pump.

You can easily get 75HP out of the 560 engine by turning up the pump a little. But, you probably don't even need that much power for what you'll be doing with the tractor anyway, right?

The only issue I see is you might not be able to get 540RPM out of the PTO with the slower-turning 560 engine. PTO engine speed on the 560 is 1800RPM, but it's 2100RPM on the 706.

The engine will interchange, the high side RPM is approx 500 more on a 706, The older engines from a 560 (by serial number) had smaller wrist pins diameter, took piston & rod change also, & the very early engines had smaller valves, engine serial was 40699 and up had these changes.

Thanx for the replies, pto speed probably won't be an issue anyway. This tractor will only see light duty anyway.

Why would engine from 1800 rpm 560 put into 706 not turn the 706 at 2100 to give 540 pto rpm ? 560 transmission was geared to make 540 pto at 1800. 706 was geared to make 540 pto at 2100. It makes no difference which tractor or other machine the engine may have been in previously, if installed in the 706, when it reaches 2100 rpm it will turn the pto at 540. You could do the opposite transfer and the 706 engine, when it reached 1800, would turn the 560's pto at 540.
