serial numbers

I'm guessing this has been covered before in this forum, but I was unable to find it in the archives. I have 3 tractors that I was researching the serial numbers on. The first is a 1940 M. There are no suffixes after the number. Is there any significance to this? the second is a 1952 M. I am wondering what the X1 suffix stands for. The third is a Hydro 70. According to the serial No. chart on this sight it should be a 1974, but I have read that the last "Farmall" badging on an IH was in 1973. Mine does say Farmall. Any insight is very much appreciated. Again forgive me if my questions have been answered in the past and I missed it.

IH didn't use suffix codes before M tractor serial number 18159, so part of the 40 M tractors wouldn't have a suffix anyway.
Don't know about the 70, some serial numbers I have don't agree with this site.

IH quit using the "Farmall" name in their adterising in 1973-74. The "Farmall" name did not dissapear from the tractor decals until 1979?? when the 140 was retired.
