I need to overhaul the engine, D239, and have heard there is low and high compression diesel pistons available for it. Has anyone heard of this?

Yes, and most suppliers carry both. I would definetly go with the high comp as they were introduced for better starting and cleaner exhaust and they work well on the D-310 and D-358 from my experience but never overhauled a
four cyl. Actually, If I remember right, they were introduced on the small four cyl engines first to over come complaints. You know, that eye burning exhaust. Service rep told me one time, a farmer claimed his cows were getting sick due to that as he cleaned barns with it I understand. There were other changes as well, a different injection nozzle with what is referred to as a low sac nozzle. You may want to retard inj a couple degrees and decrease max fuel adjustment also. These are simple changes to make right on outside of pump.
