Have my first Super A that was converted to 12 volts. At some point I will most likely put it back to 6. While looking over Bobs diagrams (thank you very much). It seem pretty clear, but what is the light for?

The lamp serves a couple purposes:

1 - It lights when the ignition is "on" and the alternator is not charging the battery - ie. it warns when the alternator stops working.

2 - It serves as a current-limiting resistor when the ignition is turned off and the engine coasts to a stop. Without the lamp, backflow current from the alternator is sufficient to continue to fire the coil. Result is the engine will continue to run after the ignition is turned off.

Some people substitute a fixed resistor or a diode/resistor combination in place of the warning lamp. Personally however I prefer the lamp - especially if others will be running my stuff.
