Cub Hyd. Pump question

About 6-8 months ago, I bought a Farmall Cub that needed some attention.. I've been slowly getting it back into shape.. Got it to where it ran good, then started making oil.. Figured due to rise in engine oil but loss of hyd. oil that the pump was the culprit (and I was right). Friday I visited my local dealer and picked up the "seal kit" for my pump, and spent a couple hours and got it fixed (or seems to be).

MY QUESTION IS: Going by the part/casting number on the pump I got the correct seal kit, but the O-Ring for the "shaft seal" was not the proper size.. it was a good amount too large. I called my dealer to verify we had the correct kit (after I had taken the pump in with me when getting the kit.. as we're all human and can error sometimes), and he looked the o-ring in question up by part number and it too was too large.. We did find a o-ring that worked, so no harm I guess, just wondering if anyone else had the same issue? If so, did you just get a o-ring by size (as we did) or is there a part number that is in fact correct (or maybe my kit was just "shy" a o-ring??)?

Just wondering so I can make a note of it in case I should ever have to do this again.. Makes it really handy when a fella writes all this stuff down just in case there is a next time.

Check with your local Napa store to see if they carry that seal for your Cub. If they do get the P/N. Hal
PS: Did you check the shaft on the part where your seal rubs? It may have a worn groove from the old seal rubbing it. Speedi-sleeve's are available to cover that surface

I don't have the pump with the actual "lip" seal.. However, I got the actual seal you are talking about from NAPA, and they were kind enough to not make me eat it.

Mine has a O-Ring that seals on the shaft instead. (Later/replacement hyd pump, as per s/n mine should in fact have that style seal)

I had a minimal groove.. I chucked the shaft in the drill press and used a very fine emery cloth, then mic'd it afterward to be sure the o ring would still get a good seal.
