ATF and Leaks on IH 806....

My transmission on the 806 has a lot of little leaks, front seal, bottom gasket, hyd. area under seat, etc. Not real heavy but after a couple of months I need to add a gallon or so of oil. I have heard guys saying that ATF will swell seals and the such. I was just wondering if anyone has tried it in a IH tans to help seal it up? Or will it cause damage to the transmission/hyd system? I know the best way is to tear it down and replace the seals and gaskets but I was just wondering if anyone thought about this or has done something similiar to this. Thanks, funtwohunt

The Hy-Tran recommended for your tractor already has the additives needed to keep the oil seals soft. ATF will not improve anything, and most likely WILL cause a few thousand dollars worth of damage.

That 806 is 47 years old. If the seals are leaking, replace them.

I believe you are thinking of brake fluid. Pouring a little brake fluid in the an automatic transmission or leaking power steering was how many used car dealers passed on leaking systems to the unsuspecting buyer it will stop the leak but over time it will do more damage than good.I wouldn t do this to a tractor if you plan on keeping it.
