Front Axle Bearings - Super C

Hi guys,

Got the Super C out on Sunday to wash and get ready for next weekend's tractor show (at Rome Ga.) and found out that I really have to replace the front axle bearings (specifically the outside cone bearing).

Anybody got a good source for these? Or is CaseIH the best bet?

Best I can tell between the owners manual and the I&T shop manual, these do NOT need to be pressed in. Is that correct?

Thanks in advance...
Randy

Your local auto parts store should have new bearings. Look for a number on the old bearings. Here are the numbers I have. Hal
Timken # 09196 cup
09074 outer cone

Hal...

The one that failed, failed so miserably that I haven't dug the pieces out the grease yet. The other one's still holding the tractor up and since I'm on the day job I went to plan B.

Took a copy of the appropriate page from the parts catalog for the Super C up to my auto parts place. They crossed the #s to the same #s you had... said they'd have 'em in from the warehouse this afternoon.

We'll see how this works when I get off and can get all the old grease and parts out of the wheel and put it all back together with the new ones... and a new can of wheel bearing grease.

Thanks for your help... and having the numbers to help me validate the store cross referencing...

I bought a lot of those bearings at a Government auction and didn't know what they fit. I sold them on classified ads several years ago. Hal

I've been buying the kits on eBay. Has all seals, felts, bearings, &
races. About $50 per side delivered to my door. Cheaper and easier
than the dealer or trying to get the parts store to even try to look
stuff up.

Hi Dean...

Thanks for responding... Hadn't really thought of ebay as I was in a rush trying to get ready for show this weekend so I went ahead and ordered just the bearings and races through my local auto parts store. Apparently timkin bearings are bearings (and cups/races) and these are still stocked. And then found out (see my "what did I learn Monday post on the tractor talk forum) that I didn't need bearings to start with.

Will probably look at the kits for doing full rebuilds in the fall.

Since you've done this before... are the cups/races pressed into the wheel... or is the only tool I need to get them out a big hammer?

Randy

Yes races are pressed in. Inner bearing was tight on by SH &
C. Had to beat those off. The SH races where ok so I didn"t
change them. C was a mess and came out with light tapping.
