10-20 - Exhaust valves

Are the intake and exhaust valves on a 10-20 the same? Seems to me they are different part numbers in the IH books, but the sizes appear identical.

The exhaust valves I have are worn to a razor edge. I have good intake valves in a spare head. Can I use these?

from memory i thought they were diff. but you have the parts in hand so that should tell the story.

I have no experience with a 10-20, but everything else I have worked on the intake valves are always a larger diameter than the exhaust valves.

You might be able to set up a valve grinding machine at a 90° angle to grind those intake valves down to the correct diameter and then reset it to the angle specified for the 10-20.

I'm pretty sure 10-20 intakes are a little bigger than the exhausts.Fordson house and others sell them, if they list a different number then they are different. Could be the seats were so worn the last guy reground them bigger and used all intake valves.......

I know nothing in particular about a 10 -20 but will say normally an exh valve is a different material but not always. If you put those valves on a valve refacer you can tell by the sparks if material is different or not. In fact, I used to change wheels on the valve grinder if I had to reface the stellite valves to get a nicer finish. Was kind of hard on stone life as you always have to dress stones more when changing back and forth between different ones.

Well every F series motor I've ever had apart has the same size intake and exhaust valves. The F30 valves are one part number apart, my 2 F12's all the valves are the same part number. The F12 book lists an intake valve but lists the exhaust valve as exhaust/intake valve. These old girls may be before stellite's time. They were also made to run hot to burn kerosene, and do it all day long, so your spare good intake valves will probably work just fine.

just found my 1929 10-20 parts book, they originally had intake valves 10891D but the parts book says order 10893D intake and exhaust valves. It also list 8064T as Intake/exhaust valves. They are silichrome not stellite. So yes they are the same size and yes you can use them. There was also an oversized valve 12297D intake and exhaust valve (silichrome) for repairing worn heads
