New carb vs rebuilt carb?

The main jet plug for the Zenith carb for my Farmall A is stripped out. I tried fixing it but it just didn't work out. I see YT sells new carbs that they claim outperforms the original carbs. I just wonder how much better the new carbs are over a rebuilt unit. I also know one must be careful of rebuilt carbs since some places don't do a good rebuilding job. Like not cleaning them enough or using cheap parts or not replacing everything, etc.

I doubt if there is any difference. I did buy a new Zenith several years ago (don't think this site was around then). Later on I fixed the old one, I couldn't tell any difference in performance -- those old tractors are not sophisticated. When you said the site mentioned higher performance, I hope they aren't getting them from Denny's. You might try Steel Wheel Ranch-785-548-7437. I would not be afraid to buy a used one there and rebuild it myself, which I am probably going to do for my Super M, depending on the price difference. It has the wrong carb on it.

Not sure I'm on the same sheet of music as you but if it's what I think it is why not go up one size with a tap and put in a new plug?

Dennys is junk!!!! horrible customer service, Wait forever with parts. They also sell snake oil parts like their torque tube y pipe exhaust. Look up Dennys on this site and you will see several comments about their JUNK!!!! terrible company to do business with!!!!

Ops forgot....on that sized engine just how much of a performance gain are you going to expect? Some upgrades can give as much as a 25% boost in HP. But not just a carb. So maybe 5-10%..... maybe less? On 16 HP???? You wouldn't even notice it! I wouldn't even bet on 5% without a better intake and exhaust. Just don't believe the hype! Knew a guy who had a dead miss in his car. He did a tune up using Split Fire plugs and wires. Man was he impressed! Just didn't understand that the difference was maybe because it was now running on 8 instead of 7. I'll bet he's still using Split Fires!

You may be better off buying a used carb and rebuilding it yourself.

Messed with my old carb on my C and had about a 100 bucks into it plus alot of aggrivation. Never did work right. Then brought a new one from Yesterday's for 150 bucks and tractor has ran great for the last 4 years with no carb. problems. I think the same carb is about 175 now.

Used JB on a carbs main jet and its still running. Cant see how the brass male fitting in a cast female could get stripped out. This is a ZENITH for the A FARMALL correct.

I bought a new zenith carb from this site a couple months ago for a 140 and it works great. The choke lever arm is a little chenzy, but they sent me new one with the rod and levr arm free of charge.

I have been on this forum for about 12-13 years. During that time I think I have read one good comment on Dennys, lost count of the bad ones. No reason to buy from them.

I know a new carb can't improve HP very much over stock. If you go to the parts section and look up carb number 14007, that is the carb
I am thinking of getting. Does it look any good? I noticed the newer Zenith carbs have 5 body screws instead of 4 like my old one does. A sign of design improvements?

On my Zenith the plug was steel, not brass. The jet under the plug looks like brass, maybe someone swapped plugs over the years?

I think the 5 screws for the bowl is a better design. The one I bought was 12911 which I think would work for yours also. If you have a problem with your carb, these people will treat you right.
