IH engine bolt patterns

i know an engine from a 460 would bolt up to a H and a 560 would go to an M, correct?? with a possible frame extension necessary. i kind of want to put a diesel IH engine in a letter series tractor. what frames would the diesel from a ?484? bolt to? i know where one is that a garbage truck broke in half.

No to both questions unless you want to do a LOT of fabrication. Anything is possible but not always practical.

The engine itself, NO.

However, if you add the front and rear engine covers, and the frame rails to the equation, then YES.

At the bell housing, an H will mate up to a 460. Same for an M and a 560.

Once you get away from that lineage, all bets are off. Basically anything after 1963 is a completely different animal except for the 656/666/686 line.

Definitely not a 484. Those are "frameless" tractors made in Doncaster England. Completely different family of tractors. Nothing mates up except to newer/older versions of the 484 (i.e. 464, 485, 495, 3210).

It CAN be done but it's all fabrication. Personally I would use a bigger 4-cylinder diesel than one out of a 484.

...and where would they use a little 35HP diesel in a garbage truck???
