Spark plugs and Magneto, do you need to use a certain plug?

Sorry pretty much posted my question in the subject box. But I was wondering if certain plugs work better with magneto starting tractors? Guess I never thought of it but if down the road someone started using different plugs than originally intended would that change how it starts or performs?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Nope, get the correct plug for the engine. It is much more important that the wires are copper. do NOT use resistor wire on a magneto. Copper stranded 7mm plug wire.

The spark plugs need to be of the non-resistor variety, such as an Autolite 3116, and the wires need to be of the solid copper core variety.

Just to clarify Rusy's comment, copper plug wires are not a single wire. They are stranded to be flexble. Often times referred to as "solid" copper core.

I'm in the Rusty camp, its more critical using a Magneto Ignition versus a battery powered coil distributor that the plugs and wires be NON RESISTIVE. The non resistive (plugs n wires) is a better impedance match up for a limited energy Magneto then the more forgiving higher energy battery powered ignition. An Autolite 386 or hotter 388 is in the correct heat range but they are resistive I believe while the similar heat range 3116 is not.
