Farmall M - Oil Fill

Ok - this may be a dumb question - but Ive never been shy with those - - my '43 M has a couple of levers on the front end of the oil fill housing, one inboard, one outboard - I've seen photos of other tractors with linkage/arms connected to them but dont really know what they are for..Ive tried to move them by hand and they are stuck.
Any answers would be great.
Thanks!

if your talking about the crankcase oil fill, those little "levers" are for hooking/controlling the radiator shutters on a distilate tractor

That is correct. You should have a rod leading up to your dash to control them. They are used for cold operation on gas tractors as well to keep engine heat in and get the tractor warmed up faster.

Thanks for the info - were the levers standard equipment or options? If standard, Ill have to add them to my list for my restore project...

Looks like they were standard for your tractor. The distillate and kerosene tractors had this lever for the shutters. The X1 (high compression, gas only tractors) did not have this setup from the factory. I would guess you have a starting tank or the remnants of one (hole in hood).

(quoted from post at 07:12:03 07/04/11) There will be a crank beside the on-off switch on the post for the steering wheel.

Most of they were taken off from what I have seen.

I have the cap and fill tube for the distilate tank, but no tank..
There is no crank or anything near the start switch.
It appears that there were a lot of changes to this machine over the years, which I guess is to be expected with the spread of years..

Still have the original from mine. Mine however are stuck so I
removed them for repair. One day ill get around to it .....
