IH 340 Utility Gas - Gas runs our of carb air inlet

Just had my carb rebuilt with gaskets, needle valve and float. It was soaked over night and cleaned first. Ran good until I shut it off for a couple of hours. Would not restart. Pulled air inlet from carb and gas ran out, just like it did before the rebuild. Left it off while I cranked and it started. Put the air inlet back on and ran it hard for two more hours without issue.

You need to turn the petcock off at the tank when you shut it off. Or take out the needle valve out and with a fine file, polish the three points on the needle valve(the made in China valves are a little too big and hang up in the seat.

Your float may need adjustment, Or something suck in your needle valve.

In any case, it is a good habit to get into to shut the fuel off when the tractor is going to be off for any longer then a few minutes. You never know what can happen. It also keeps your tractor from wandering off by unwanted operators.

Well #1 you should always shut off the gas valve when you park a tractor. That said sounds like you have a rubber tipped needle valve and it needs the have a set put in it. Ya it will over time set it self but you can do it also by opening up the carb pull the float and then drop the need in the seat and tap on it a few times with a small punch etc. No need to hit it hard just a couple light taps to put a set in the needle tip
