International 340 Engine Removal

Hello all,

I am in the process of removing the C-135 engine from my 1962 International 340 utility tractor so I can rebuild it. As far as I can tell I have everything unbolted, but I can't get it to to break loose from the transmission case. The front of the engine is completely free. I removed 4 bolts (2 each side) at the transmission along with 2 bolts in the dust cover. I used an engine hoist and picked the front of the tractor up via the engine, jumped up and down on the engine and kicked it a few times to no avail.

This is the first engine I've pulled from a tractor. Is there something I am missing here? Do I have to unbolt something in the clutch area?

there is 2 dowl pins that is holding it. need to slide engine forward with only a little tension on front. may need prybar to get it moveing. lucky you didnt break anything.
and there is 6 bolts not four! the top 2 are from rear of tractor.

I agree with rustred. I don't know what you mean by dust cover. The two smaller bolts are on top of the clutch housing and bolt to the top of the engine. Some tractors have an additional bolt inside the hole for the starter, I don't think the 340 does. I assume you have removed the starter. As rustred says your main problem is the dowels. I start with a small screw driver and proceed to larger ones, and occasionally the mentioned pry bar. I assume you are splitting it at the front of the clutch housing and not at the transmission case as you mentioned.

You guys were right. I missed to 2 bolts at the top. I never would have guessed those went all the way through to the engine. The one on the passenger side was a real bear to get to. I had to pull the gas tank among other things to get a wrench on it, then had to work it out as I moved the engine forward.

I ended up taking a lot more stuff apart then I anticipated. Long story short I got it out.
