after about 8 years of work I have finally finished my 1939 M. It is a really low serial number and has all the hard to find correct 39 parts except for 1 that I have a lead on.

Very cool. I see you even have the heat shield for the manifold. Did you make it or find one?

What part are you looking for?

yes those heat shields can be hard to find but it also has a correct pto shield as well that needed to be unbolted to use the pto that I have never seen anther original. The heat shield is an original and is as close to perfect as you get. I am going to build a little brother for this one next a 39 H and am getting most of the parts so far. The part I am missing is an original stop cable I fabricated one to match a picture but is is the only original item I need. Thanks for all the good coments. Paul

Very Impressive. Id say its ready for the next red power round up.
Allot of people would be very interested in that PTO cover!!!!

I almost had it ready for this year red power but I dont own a trailer heavy and wide enough to haul it any distance. Maybe 2014 in Heron, SD I can try and get a trailer large enough to haul all 3 1939's I own if I get my H done by then.

You mentioned all original. Does that include the steering wheel? If it's original then when did they change to the wheel with the exposed iron spokes and hub? Where in MN? I'm in Waseca County.

The steering wheel is correct. My 1940 M has one just like it. I don't know when the change was made, but the A,B, H and M all had them up to a certain year. Reproductions are available in a 16 inch diameter which is correct for an A or a B, but rather small for an H or M.

I think that same steering wheel was also used on the later F20 and F30.

Thanks. That means I'll have to check the year of a "B" I'm aware of that has a wheel just like this and I thought it was wrong. Maybe this "B" is old enough that it DOES have the correct wheel.

the steering wheel and the grill emblem are reproduction. Ive had a chance to buy different used steering wheels but all have been cracked. The emblem should be steel and painted. I have that emblem just dont have it painted up yet. My shows that all 39 models had that steering wheel and they used it till the break in 1940 when they did all the changes like getting rid of the hog troff plateform and the change it the seat and meany other things. F-14, F-20, and F-30 also used this wheel for 1939

First off, very nice! What serial number is it? I have serial number 782 with all numbers matching on frame and motor. What size tires are those? They look about the same as mine. I think mine are 11x38. I thought someone had put H tires and rims on it at some time but perhaps those are the correct size? Mine is all original too with the correct seat and platform.

this is sn 529 there has never been a serial tag on it. all the casting codes match 7 10 I The frame is stamped the motor is not the original but was a replacement that had all the 39 parts atached. The casting codes were the same except it had 7 10 f instaid of 7 10 I so I made the f an I and stamped the serial number Im not trying to decieve anyone just thought it would look better. I bought this tractor from a guy that had parted it out and sold everything but the castings. I bought the casting and used my grandfathers m #1490 and built this one as correct as I could as most of the castings were bad on 1490. The list would be very long if I said All I did to build this one right. The rear tires on it there are 11.2x 38 that will be going on my 39 H. I put them on here as the H is outside and this M sits inside. It should have 36 inch rears and I know were there are some rims but not sure I will go that route. Im kinda thinking some new 13.6x 38 firestones one of these days.

Very nice attention to detail. That may be the corresct spacing between the muffler and the hood, but I gaurantee you at that distance you are going to turn that red paint around the pipe to brown.

Since the frame# is on right front behind rediator you can be sure of the number to stamp on a new ID serial #. My 39 M has same #2241 on serial plate, motor and frame, and was sold new in oct. 1939.They started building these tractors in early July and selling them around Aug 4,39 and all castings on tractor are in sept, 1939. {motor cast date is 9-11-I}. that really stopped me for a min. One more thing. Our 1942 h we had during ww2 had a steel name plate painted black with gray border and letters. The 46 h also had the same emblem. Nice,Nice M.

I have not found any information of when they started with the tags but have heard of some of the 600 serial numbers that didnt I am also not sure when they stopped stamping the frame rails, my 39 H is a higher serial number and that never was stamped

I made a large run of reproduction early PTO shaft guards for the 39 H and M tractors about 10 years ago, and finally ran out of them about 2 years ago. The 36" rims that were used on the early tractors came in single side split and double side split (outer bands).

The steel grill emblem was used on the tractors built during the war years of 1942 and 1943. This was because of the shortage of aluminum.

The 1939 year models would have used the aluminum grill emblem.

The H and the M use an 18 inch diameter steering wheel. Since that reproduction steering wheel is only a 16 inch diameter, it might make for some hard steering.

Very nice looking restoration; congratulations on getting her completed.
I was at this year's RPRU from Monday afternoon until Saturday morning but left for home before the national meeting Saturday afternoon but from your response it appears Huron, SD won the right to the 2014 RPRU - is that correct? Thanks for confirmation of the 2014 RPRU location, Hal.

yes from what I heard Huron, SD got it as there were the only one wanting it. I was at this years show from Thursday morning till about noon on Saterday. Paul

thanks for the info, I thought it kinda wierd that the original 39 grill had a steel emblem so I was guessing it was original but maybe somebody replaced it along the way.

It really doesnt steel to bad with the 16 inch wheel being a tall guy its nice to have the extra room under the wheel.

they dont look to hard to make, going to make one for my H one of these days.

I was only aware of the single side slit thanks for the info on the double side.

Thanks Paul for the information. I did talk to the South Dakota folks where the chapter tables were set up during one of my many trips through the building. I did pick up their literature and asked where Heron was located and didn't notice any other chapters having a presentation for the 2014 RPRU. Will be a little farther then but we have a short trip next year to Du Quoin in southern Illinois, Hal.

I picked up there literture as well and sounds like really nice grounds for the show. It sounds like there isnt alot of hotels there but it sounds like there is a really nice camp ground there.
