Farmall M disc Brakes

Hi again - if ya'll remeber I posted some questions about my '43 M with disc brakes back in Sept '10. I have the Lambert disc conversion on my machine.
Still trying to round up discs for Big Red - used her a lot last year in low gear so I could stop, but now have them torn apart to finally fix. Bought a set of Super M discs and tried to machine them to work, then messed up on the 3rd one. Frustrating.
Looking for a place to get new lining materials so I can re-line and rivet them.
Anyone know of a place in western IA? Im near Atlantic, IA.
I have grass to mow and dirt to move, and really want to get her back in the sunshine.
Thanks.

I would suggest giving up on those Lamberts and changing the M back over to the original style drum and band brakes. You shouldn't have to drive very from Atlantic to find a salvage yard that has what you need.

I have a 1950 H that DID have those Lamberts. They never did work as good as I thought they should. Tore into them one day and discovered a bunch or worn out and broken parts inside the right brake, so I robbed the original style brakes off a project H and installed them on the '50. Best thing I ever did.

I agree, find a salvage M & change it back, the Lamberts were a attempt to upgrade the band brakes under heavy tillage specifically plowing when they had to ride the brakes to keep going thru tough or wet spots. The bands were a better brake for every day use.

I took the Lambert disks off my M to the local clutch/brake shop that specializes in brakes and clutches. This shop bebuilds clutch and brake disks, they don't to any mechanical work. They relined the disks for me. When I did this, you could still get the Lambert disks from IH. Very expensive though and the reline was much cheaper.

Good news!

Found a shop in Omaha that re-lined my oiginal discs for $35.00 each - so for $140.00 I walked away with new brakes, cleaned everything up, lubed the ball bearings, and put it all back together.

Big Red stops on a dime now!!

Maybe the Lamberts dont work well for heavy usage, but my place isnt too big, I have only had her in third gear once in two years, she's gonna be fine here - now I can keep her the way she was when I got her and have the conversation piece about the Lambert conversion.

BTW - after I spent the cash to get mine relined, a guy in Missouri listed a full set of Lamberts on eBay, "Buy it Now" for $150.00, housings, discs, and acuators if anyone is looking.

Now - on to figuring out how to hook up the old two way valve I picked up on eBay last week - posts to come Im sure..

Lovin my IH - good to have her out in the sunshine finally...
