Original Decals

Why is it so hard to find the correct decals for a Super A? I have a 1950 Super A with McCormick-Deering over Farmall with a wavy A and have not been able to find the correct set to match this. Can anyone offer help... thanks in advance for any help.... by the way I have looked a lot. I can find wavy A and McCormich-Deering decals but not both in the same set...may have to buy two sets to match original decals.

Hopeful

For 1950, the wavy A is correct, but the Farmall decal should read IH Mccormick, no Deering. The correct single SA decal may be hard to come by. Maple Hunter doesn't list it, but they may have it.

Yes the wavy A is correct.....but the original decals from the factory on my Super A read IH McCormick-Deering with Farmall below....also at the bottom of my wavy A is the words Culti vision...which I'm also able to find. These are the original decals on this tractor....believe it or not. Maybe this was a rare goof on boring Friday in Chicago but that's what's on it. Since it seems to be kinda rare I'd like to replace them just as they are.

You said you could find the decals in different sets... You might just have to break down and buy both sets to get the right combination of decals.

(quoted from post at 23:00:37 07/01/11) Have you tried Bates Corporation Bourbon, In.? They have 4 different sets for a Super A.

That site I have not tried. I will look them up and give it a shot. Thanks for the tip.

Livin the Dream I have one more place you might try. OEM Tractor Parts, Inc. Chenoa, IL.( 1-800-283-2122). You could give them a call maybe they could help you.

Could be--but they were supposed to be changed in mid-1949. Sometimes IH would use discontinued parts until they were all used, so if original, it was probably intentional.

From what I know of Maple Hunter they will mix and match a set for your tractor of whatever you want. I met them at the Rock River Thresheree and they were VERY awesome to deal with.

Thanks again for everyone's help. I have some work now to look up these different sites and see what I can find. Now I need to find someone with magneto knowledge.

Spent a week going through and cleaning this old tractor hoping today she would fire but, no go. I thought she was seized up but after dumping the old oil, cleaning out the pan, and emptying out the clutch area of 1lb plus of junk stuff inside.... so much so that turning the hand crank it would lock up. The gears on the clutch were so packed that the crank would not turn over the engine....anyway we've got no spark right now. Need mag help...

The contact points in that mag might be slightly corroded, or just dirty. Usually dragging a CLEAN piece of paper through the points will clean away the crud. You may need to replace the points AND the condensor, and it is possible the coil is dead and needs replaced also. If you need a complete rebuilt magneto, or want someone to rebuild the one you have, I know a couple of guys that do excellent work. One is in Nebraska, and the other is in upper New York.

Thanks, I think I will try to repair it myself first. I want to learn how everything works, besides I have the time to putz on it and enjoy that kinda stuff....

If I am unable to get it working I will send it out or find other means to get her working. Thanks again for the help and suggestions. This forum has been great....
