Wide front that fits BOTH H and M: myth or reality???

I have seen a few Craigslist ads where the seller claims they have a used aftermarket wide front (such as those made by Norden out of Kansas) that fits both H and M. I didn"t think the bolt pattern under the front bolster allowed interchange between H"s and M"s.

Are these people ignorantly assuming they will fit both tractors, or am I the one who is ignorant?

Anything is possible with a torch and a welder... Someone gets the old "flame drill" out and punches a few holes... Result, one "universal" front end.

Of course the M front end under the H will cause a severe uphill run, and an H front end under the M will make it run downhill...

Mounting plates for an M is 2" wider and 2" taller. Anything can be made to fit though... Actual steering bracket is the same between the two.

The bolster bolt spacing where the steering arm bolts is also different between the two.

I agree with what has already been said. Unless you are good with a torch and a welder, and don't mind a cobbled up mess when you're done, the wide front axles for an H and an M will NOT interchange.

Most likely the basic axle will be the same. What will be different are the mounting brackets and the steering arm.

I took a factory IH wide front with the tie rods out front and the big plate to set the axle under the tractor from an M and I cut 1 inch off each side of the plate to fit an H. I then had to slot 2 of the holes on the arm that bolts to the boaster It worked out really well but if a person doesnt have the right equipment it is hard to do it with out makeing a mess of things.
