A quitting

I went out to mow the lawn with my A that has a woods belly mower. After a couple of minutes, it quit. There was no spitting or sputtering, it just quit on me as if I hit the kill switch. Went to start it again & the battery was dead, so I gave it a jump. Once I got it started up again, I continued to mow. After a couple of more minutes, it did the same thing & quit on me. Any ideas?

Does it have battery ignition (distributor) and a failed charging system, so the battery goes dead, the distributor quits making sparks, and the engine dies?

lots of possibility's, Genny/reg not keeping charge to batt/points system, bad switch/s breaking current, check if batt might be getting discharges from bad cell.//// someone else might post more tips that maybe can help also.

First thing I would check is charging voltage at the battery with the engine running. It should be 14V+. Use an analog voltmeter, gennys drive the digital ones berserk.

He will not have 14 volts if it is a 6 volt system.

If you have a distributor your battery voltage is getting too low for your ignition. Check your charging system to see if the battery is being charged. I have an analog multimeter and I don't have a problem reading the charging voltage whether its off a generator or alternator as I have both. I only paid about $20.00 dollars for it at RadioShack. More info is needed for use to help you help your self. Things like is it a battery type ignition or is it a mag??? Do you know for sure it has gas to the carb when it dies??? Is it 6 or 12 volts. Hard for us to know what you have so even harder for use to to help you. If battery ignition then a dead battery will cause that. If a mag ignition then you need to check for spark the moment it dies

Sounds like a coil whether ist a mag or a dist iv had the same thing happen and it was the coil.. When it dies you need to check for spark as soon as it dies.
