C/SC wide front questions...

I swear I saw a site that had NEW wide fronts listed. Now I can't for the life of me find it. Does anyone know of one? I thought it was A&I but a C is not listed.

Is a wide front adjustable for width??

Why are all of the used ones welded up? Is it abuse or a poor design?

I know a lot of questions for ONE post.. sorry I been saving em up..

A&I is the sole manufacturer of the aftermarket Schwartz wide front axles, but no, there is not one available for a C or super C.

Noway are all the wide fronts welded got to remember in their 60 pluss yrs of use driven by jockeys things happen. You can get good wide fronts they are available. Now what do you need the wide front for as they wont turn as short and the list goes on.

I agree with Gene....are you sure you want a wide front? I have a C with narrow front, and would never to to a wide front. Much more maneuverable. I am sure there is a good reason to have a wide front, it is just that I have not seen one.

I have a Super C that came with a wide front. I know it took a lot of searching and I found a salvage yard in Mississippi or Missouri that had narrow front ends. As for the wide front, they are probably harder to find at a salvage yard but I have been told that the B and BN wide fronts fit the C and Super C.

As for adjustable, mine is. I would assume they all are. I dont know the exact dimensions but I would say that you can adjust it at least 8 inches on each tire.

I can understand why you would want to convert to wide, which is probably the opposite of why I'm going back to narrow. If I decide to sell my wide front, I will post it on this site in the classifieds. Be sure to keep an eye out in the next few months, when I will hopefully get the narrow end on the tractor.

One of my uncles had a SC with a wide front because he farmed some steep hills (always said he worked both sides of the ground). However when it broke, he replaced it with a narrow front because it is more manuverable.

Neither the B nor the BN were available with a wide front axle. The Farmall A DID have a wide front, but since that tractor is an offset model, the wide front WOULD NOT easily adapt to a C or Super C.

If you look at a C/Super C wide front, it doesn't look all that sturdy. Kinda light and spindly if you ask me.

Drive like an idiot over rough ground, try to push something, loader work, accidental contact with a chuck hole... Many different reasons for the front end to be broke and welded.

You're right, a lot of them are welded. Probably more than any other IH tractor in sheer numbers. There are some good ones out there, but you have to look.

Alternatively, a good repair is just as good as an unwelded front end. Too bad most repair attempts are half-hearted at best.

I have 9 Farmalls and all are narrow fronts, 2 SC's and 2 C's included. I love the little tractors and the narrow fronts. HOWEVER, I am planing on converting about 2 acres into PERMANENT beds for vegetables this fall. I will need something to straddle the beds with a trailer and possibly some planting equipment (haven't figured that part out yet).

Not many wide front anythings around here they all seem to be way north and east of here.

Thanks for all the info...
