Red IHC Cub Cadet Model # by Serial Number

I have a friend that inherited a IHC Cub Cadet that is missing the hood. It runs good, and is a hydrostat drive. He said it originally had a 24hp Onan engine. He is trying to figure out the model number. The serial tag on the left side by your foot says 2050595U677301. Does that help anyone determine the year and model number? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks - Bob

By the way, it is a red tractor, and it says International Cub Cadet on the dash just above where the steering column goes through the dash. Thanks again - Bob

I think the only cub cadet garden tractor with an Onan engine is a 982 and it is bigger than the CC regular garden tractors of the X82 series.

Sounds like a 982 Super Garden Tractor. Available with 3 point and PTO. It had a 20 hp Onan (actually listed at that time as a 19.9 due to some safety laws at the time). There wasn't a red garden tractor made with a 24 hp motor, but it could have been a replacement motor. I wish I would have kept mine. The later yellow and white models were the 1872 (18 hp) and the 2072 (20 hp). Identical except for color.

Actually there is a difference between them and the later models. The ones built by IH had a cast iron transmission case - same as the Farmall Cub. A few of the early MTD versions had the same case as they burned off parts. Then they went to a aluminum housing on the transmission case.

The kind/code (205059) tell me this is a 982. It originally had a 19 HP Onan Engine under the hood.

The serial number 677301 makes this a 1980 year model.

Many thanks for the replies. I will let him know. He was mainly trying to find out so he could order a manual, if possible. Thanks again for your help - Bob
