I have a 1952 Farmall H with the serial number 389786X1..... What the heck does the X1 stand for

"X1" = Gasoline-only engine, lower compression than an "X3" kerosene burner.

Tod, a good place to start would be to purchase a copy of Guy Fays "International Harvester Tractor Data Book". It covers the "Letter " series IH tractors

For the older tractors the codes are listed in the front of the parts books.

bob you're a little bit off. the x1 is gasoline, highest compression. the distillate was medium compression and the kerosine was the lowest compression.+

x1 Is high compression gas. I don't think it was the highest compression, There may have been a x for high altitude. If my memory serves me right

Boy...you've got a really late serial numbered H...one of the last regular H's made. I have S/N 389442 X1 sitting in my shed at home. You've got me beat though!!!
