We have to split an MD to replace the broken pressure plate and clutch... There is a thin steel plate between the bell housing and the rear end of the engine block... When we pull the 8 bolts that clamp the frame rails to the bell housing what is supporting the rear of the engine?
Do I have to support the engine and the frame, or are there blind bolts on that plate joining the end of the engine to to the end of the frame rails?

Ya leave the bolt thru the back plate and thru the frame rails holes to support the engine . in other words do not pull the bolts out of the frame rails . I am not sure on what you have to work with as far as splitting stands or what. My splitting stands bolt to the frame rails and i move the ft. forward and leave the rear supported on my rear stands. sorry i do not have pictures to show you . Just never took the time to take pictures when i am working on someone's dime.

Thanks... I get the picture - crude way to do it, but apparently effective...
We don't have splitting stands but did pick up some channel iron to make them and we have welding and cutting equipment to work with... I did find a couple of pictures of stands to pick ideas from...

I did the same thing as Tractor Vet on my MD. IIRC I came here and asked the same question as well.
