Farmall M front bolster

Hey guys! Wondering how much weight the front bolster could support off the two threaded holes where a cultivator bracket mounts? I need to add a little weight to the front of my reverse-operation cotton picker M. With that single front tire the front end is light and I was thinking of building a bracket that would bolt up to those two holes in the bolster, and then bolt 1 or possibly 2 rear wheel weights up to that. What do you guys think???

If that wont work I can always just bolt something up the frame rails. Either way I want to use wheel weights as they would have been original to the era unlike suitcase weights.

I have solid and split weights to work with...

I think no part of that setup is original to the era so it wouldn't really matter what type of weight you use. I wouldn't go too nuts putting weight on those two threaded holes. I have seen a couple that have broken off.

When I pull I took a couple heavy I beams and bolted them to the holes in the frame rails. They take suitcase weights nicely. If you just want a quick adaptation I have seen guys bolt half weights to the same holes and run with it.

The only weights original to that era are the large weights for the rear wheels, the hard to find front frame mounted weights, and the front wheel mounted weights. The front wheel weights will not install on a single front, so that option is out.

Do as the other guy mentioned and bolt a couple pieces of channel iron to the frame rails AND to the bolster. Make the channel irons long enough to extend forward far enough to accept your rear wheel weights, layed down flat on the channel iron.

They made 2 different single front tires. One was a 16" rim and the other one had the 12" cast weight center. (not sure on the size). I have the cast weight style and the tire for it is a 12 ply aircraft GSE tire. It"s fairly heavy and you could also then add calcium to it also to get the weight you need.
