IH 300 Row Crop Shifting

I had to replace a rear axel on my 300R, this requires disassembling a good part of the tractor, we got it back together and the shifting is messed up, have aligned the shifting bars for neutral (all slots align) but it won't go into neutral, or shift properly.
I am thinking that one of the forks is misaligned
Is there an easy way to get them aligned? With that heavy steel cover (floor cover) it is difficult to see as you lower it?
ANY TRICKS ANY OF YOU GUYS HAVE?
Thanks Jay

Assuming that the shifter tip is in the Neutral slot: Lowering one side earlier than the other on that deck, such that with a good light and eyes, you can assure the forks are on the slider grooves does the trick. Jim

Thanks Jim, I took it back apart ( nothing else to do on this rainy day) and the middle fork missed the slider grove when we lowered the deck.
I picked up this little 3/16" fexible LED light for 99 cents..that worked perfect to see down there.
BUT one thing that I noticed was one of the gears, had some wear about 1/8" off the front (think it was 3rd gear).
How hard would it be to change out that gear as long as the deck is off? Would I need to split the tractor?
Thanks again.
