1456 gold demo

How can you tell if a gold demo is real? Is there anything on the serial # or things to look at. It is not gold at this time.

I googled it. Came up with the mecum auction site and it said there's no way to tell except for the paint. Course that's google someone else might have more of an idea.

Supposedly they have no idea of the serial numbers of any of the demo tractors. Look how many white demos there are...
IIRC the steering column on a gold demo was black(?) where the others must normally be red??? Something like that. That is then a tip off to start looking in hidden places for gold paint. I guess when the dealers repainted them red they would usually leave the steering column the demo color rather than the normal color. That is what some gold demo guy told me at Baraboo or Madison RPRU (I don't really remember where I was, but I know it was a show up that way) Obviously when the dealer did the repaint there were some hidden areas that have gold paint rather than red on them. ie behind panels, in cracks, behind big parts, etc

I have a gold demo 1456 and i there is no way to tell if it was but mine is from the first owner and has some gold paint on the bottom of the fenders they were repainted befor they were sold and i know they were only made in 1970.

Your best bet is to start looking under sheet metal for signs of any gold paint. That is usually how they are spotted. When the dealers repainted them they weren"t to fussy about painting the undersides of all the hoods, cowels, fenders, etc. The chrome shift levers mean nothing. My 1256 has factory chrome shift levers. I think the black steering column thing is bogus too. Most of those tractors came with tilt steering which means a black plastic steering column cover so I don"t think that will be much help either.
