I am looking to purchase several seed plates to fit a Farmall Super A-140 Planter system. I found a lot of 30 plates on ebay, and they are 2 each of 15 different plates. After the shipping costs, they would be about $3.15 per plate, which is the best deal I've found.

My question is that I have no idea if these are Pea Plates, Okra Plates, Watermelon, or Corn. They listed the plate numbers, but I haven't been able to find out what they plant. I have been trying to research them, and have found where they correspond to the sizes of seed, but nothing about the type of seed. It only seems like they only made Corn plates for these planters.

I used to own a Cole Planter, and it actually had Peas, Corn, Watermelon, Cantaloupe, etc. marked on the plate.

Someone please help me so I can figure out if these plates are something I can use, or if they are some that aren't as useful. A quick guide showing the numbers and type of seed would be nice. I have searched and haven't found one.

THANKS!

Plastic seed plates may have the IH part number on them. If so, you can look up those numbers in the planter owner's manual or parts catalog to see the cell size and what they are for. If the plates have a "C-" number, you have to look up that number to get the cell size. Lincoln Ag Products has a fairly good lising of the "C-" sizes at:

Without the eBay listing or lists the numbers here, that is all I can tell you.

Here are the numbers to the plates that I am intrested in buying:

C1X-24
C2X-24
C3-24
C6-24
C7-24X
C8-24

C9-24
C10-24
C11-24

C13-24
C15-24

C19-24
C25-24

C54-24
C65-24

RTR, those numbers are for corn plates. All the plates are 24 cell (that's what the "24" after the dash means. If you use these plates your planter has to have it's sprocket settings geared for 24 cells. Many old planters used 16 cell plates so take note. Refer to your owner's manual for the correct sprocket settings.

I do not think you have a real "good buy" at those prices, as plastic plates are plentiful. But if they are new then it's your money.

You do NOT need all those plate numbers. I am listing the plates in descending order of cell sizes. (There is no rhymm or reason to the numbers as they are not in descending order).

C13 large round seed
C54 (very seldom needed)
C1X medium round
C15 (very seldom needed)
C2X small round
C25 (very seldom needed)
C3 very small round

C8 large flat seeds
C11 med large flat
C7 med flat
C65 (seldom needed)
C6 small med flat
C10 (seldom needed)
C9 small flat
C19 very small flat

Do you have any plates that came with that planter? If so, are they 16 or 24 cell? (Count the cells around the perimeter).

RTR,
Jim is giving you good directions. Click on "Lincolnag" as they make all the Lustran plates. Then click on "corn plates" on left column. If you need plates for other crops maybe they have them listed. If not, call them.

I think you have an old 2-row planter, and those planters almost always used 16 cell plates unless the previous owner changed the sprocket settings to 24 cell. You HAVE to have the correct plate in that planter or you will have a big problem with corn planted too thin or far too thick.

Thank you all for the good information and helping me understand this. We actually have 7 Planter/Side Dresser Units for the Super A-140 tractors, and we have about 5 complete Planter/Side Dresser Units for the Cub tractors plus many different hoppers and parts for them. Out of ALL of those planter units and hoppers (we have about 30 hoppers) we have YET to acquire ANY Seed Plates other than some cast iron ones that would still be attached to the hopper. I have never seen a Lustran Seed Plate personally. I am planning on picking out the best Planter Unit for a Super A and Cub to keep, and sell the remaining units. If I do so, I would like to be able to include some plates with it, and also have some plates for me to keep. I am just looking to purchase some good used/new plates that are "useable" and nothing that I wouldn't need. Because I would be purchasing between 40-50 plates, I'd like to find a good deal. THANKS AGAIN!!!
