on my w-6, went on tractorade, 5 miles, couldn"t get it to stay in fifth road gear. didn"t have much travel with shifter, could hand hold down somewhat to use, but pop back out, sore arm. how normal/abnormal is this problem.... looks bad when greenies pass you up...what need to be done to fix....it"s not a real important issue, being i wouldn"t do that again.... i take lighter/smaller tractor next time to run over the green ones. lol

The problem on my H was a combination of a worn 5th gear and the spring that pushs the ball down into the detent being rusted through. You really don't know until you pop the top on the trans and look at it. Some guys have experienced the front bearing (input?) on that shaft being bad and causing their tractors to jump out, but that was not my problem.

I know on the letter series you can pull the belt pulley/delete cover and look into the trans. This will save you a lot of trouble of pulling the lid on the trans.

A loose front main shaft bearing will cause it not to stay in gear and not be able to holds it on gear. If the bearings are OK then you will probably have to replace a gear.

May be the bearing between the input and output shafts. It may not be holding the 2 shafts in alignment as it once did.

doubt any thing is going to be easy on this monster, lol, has belt pully.
