I have a Super A in need of total engine rebuild. I notice that flat top pistons and hi-comp pistons are available in the kits. My originals are low compression flat top. Is it ok to install the domed pistons in this motor. I think they were all originally flat top. The advantage is obviuos, especially with todays higher octane fuels. What do you think guys. This is a request from down under. The big island west of NZ.

Yes you can put domed pistons in your engine. I have a 1940 A with flattops and 20hp so your tractor should well be above that.

I don't have first hand experience, but I believe on some Farmall tractors it may depend on the cylinder head or valve clearance. You may try contacting www.agkits.com and have your engine block and head part numbers. The Super A could have any one of several different engines (C113, C-123 Early/Late, Distillate, gas & all fuel). Plus over the years, what you have may not be original.
With block & head part numbers and a source specializing in sleeve & piston sets, you should be able to get the answers you need.
It's best to be sure than to find out late that the head won't fit.

High compression, oversized pistons is pretty much a standard upgrade when overhauling these engines.

Do yourself a favor and don't order the sleeve & piston kit until you have pulled the engine apart and measured the inside diameter of the bore at the bottom of the sleeve, where the O-Ring seal is. That diameter will determine what the Outside Diameter is of the sleeves you need. There was a change in that during the Super A run and you want to be sure to get the right parts.
