Farmall Super C Genertor gets very hot

I have a farmall super C that I recently had the generator serviced and put on a new V.R. and coil. The generator gets so hot that you can't touch it and the coil gets hot. Is this normal or have I wired something wrong. I hand crank this tractor to start it, battery is dead. However it does show discharge when the switch is pulled out and charge while its running now... I have cleaned up the ground on the POS and NEG terminals on the batttery and where they bolt to the frame and starter.. any suggestions are appreciated..[/b]

How tight is the belt ?
Have you tried oiling the little cups for the bearings?
Perhaps the bearings are failing?
Is it charging ok ?

The belt is a little tighter then it should be. Yes the bearings have been oiled inspected. and my meter shows that it is charging pos. 10

If the battery is dead your generator will get hot when it is running. It is going to be at maximum output all the time.

There is no provision for cooling on those generators so the heat really builds up ion them when the run at maximum load. Try charging your battery first and make sure that it is good and will hold a charge. Once the battery is charged I think you will find the generator will run cooler.

yes i did polarize I jumped a wire from the BAT terminal on V.R. to the A post on Generator and saw a spark. I loosen the belt and I have about half inche play I also put a few more drops of oil in the cups on generator. Thank you for the input

As far as the ground goes I'm lost I thought if I had it grounded at the battery on the pos. terminal and I cleaned up where the V.R. mounts onto the tractor, otherwise I followed the wiring diagram. Is there another ground other then those two I could check?

Thanks guys for all of your input I have the super C running good now NEW BATTERY did the trick.
